In addition to the social mission and job opportunities offered by La Plantation, we are also proud to have supported, since 2013, the village’s primary school for the exclusive benefit of children.
About a hundred students benefit from our support with school equipment and bicycles, so they can go to school. We built a new access road to the school and are maintaining the buildings. We financially support the school for the exclusive benefit of the education of children, including a complementary salary for teachers. With this funding, they can give lessons to children in the morning and in the afternoon. It helps a lot giving our children from our village a good quality and continuous education.
The main challenge
Being located 20 kilometers from the city is a real handicap for our children who wish to continue their secondary studies. For the past four years, we have implemented support for the best students finishing primary school. For these children, we finance scholarship in the best private school in Kampot (including uniforms, books, school supplies). They are transported morning and evening by a driver in a minivan. We give them some money every month for their breakfast and lunch in town. It’s so rewarding to see our children grow up! We can now communicate in English with our 12 students (4th year of the program with 9 secondary school students and 3 high school students). When our oldest ones will finish high school, we will accompany them to university and support them to access qualified jobs.
The association to receive donations
In 2019, we created an association Les Ecoles de La Plantation, whose funds raised allow us to strengthen our actions for education in the region. Our generous donors (who sponsor children for their school fees) and visitors to La Plantation can thus participate more actively in this social project, while benefiting from tax deductions (depending on the country).
The Kid’s House
One of our friends generously funded the purchase of a traditional Khmer house that we moved and rebuilt at La Plantation. In this Children's House, the children get English lessons (soon we hope to add French lessons), traditional Khmer dance lessons, introduction to computers, creative workshops. They have access to educational games and a library with books in English and Khmer.
