About us

Our Young Ginger develops an exceptional
aromatic palette

Ginger, botanically known as Zingiber officinale, originates from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, particularly India and China. Its use dates back over 5,000 years, making ginger one of the oldest known spices to humanity.

For centuries, it has been used for both its captivating aromas and medicinal properties. In Cambodia, ginger is an essential part of traditional cuisine and traditional medicine. The Kampot region is renowned for its unique terroir, which gives ginger a distinctive flavor.
In the Middle Ages, ginger was one of the first Asian spices to arrive in Europe around the 4th century BCE. It was then a precious spice, often used in sweet and spicy dishes.

Our Young Ginger is cultivated at La Plantation in Kampot with passion and respect for the environment on our family farm in Cambodia. We harvest the ginger at an early stage when the rhizomes are still young and juicy to obtain a unique flavor. Our cultivation process combines tradition and innovation to ensure exceptional quality.

We refuse the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, opting for sustainable farming methods that preserve the biodiversity of our permaculture farm. The gentle sunlight of Cambodia plays a crucial role in developing the unique flavor and aroma of our ginger.

The small roots of our ginger are harvested when it is still young. This meticulous work is done by hand, a key ancestral know-how to protect these delicious little rhizomes.

Then, it is peeled and immediately dried at low temperature to preserve all its aromas. All our spices, even those in powder form, are produced on the same day as the harvest. This rigor of work is made possible because we are not just a spice brand or sourcers, but truly the producers! This promises you a ginger worked in a unique way, still young, with fresh and flowery aromas that will surprise you.

Our young ginger powder is a delicious variant of our Wild Ginger, offering a milder and fresher flavor. Here’s how you can use it:

  • Use young ginger powder to flavor your dishes. It’s ideal for curries, soups, stews, and vegetable dishes.
  • Mix young ginger powder with other spices to create flavorful marinades for meat, chicken, or fish.
  • Its intense aroma makes it the perfect partner for fish, shrimp, and mussels. It enhances broths for cooking seafood, as discovered in pasta dishes like “vongole,” for example.
  • Add a pinch of young ginger powder to your cookie or cake recipes to give them a unique flavor. It also pairs wonderfully with ice cream, hot chocolate, puddings, and cooked fruits.
  • It particularly complements round fruits like mango or pear and quince to give them an aromatic strength.
  • Incorporate young ginger powder into your smoothies for an exotic flavor and a boost.
  • Young ginger powder is commonly used in Asian cuisine and can be added to sauces for stir-fries, noodles, and soy-based dishes.
  • Sprinkle young ginger powder on your steamed, roasted, or sautéed vegetables to give them a unique aroma.
  • Mix young ginger powder with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic to create a delicious dipping sauce for spring rolls, sushi, or tempura.

Young ginger powder offers a subtle and refreshing flavor that can be used in multiple ways in cooking. Feel free to experiment and add it to your favorite dishes to enjoy its delicious taste nuances.

Ginger is renowned for its health benefits, including:

Promoting digestion, relieving nausea, and helping to combat stomachaches. Its ability to stimulate the production of gastric juices can contribute to more efficient digestion, thereby reducing digestive discomfort such as bloating.

Gingerol, the active compound in ginger, is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce pain and inflammation. This makes it a natural ally in alleviating symptoms associated with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Strengthening the immune system due to its antioxidant properties. The antioxidants present in ginger help neutralize free radicals, thus enhancing the body’s natural defenses against infections.

By incorporating ginger into your daily diet, whether consuming it in powder form or as an infusion, you may potentially enjoy these numerous benefits for your physical and mental health. It is always recommended to consult a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you have specific medical concerns.

Young ginger, with its delicate aromas, must be carefully stored. Exposure to light and moisture could damage its color, shifting it towards beige or yellow tones, as well as affecting its floral aromas. Store it directly in our 50g food-grade kraft tube, or for larger quantities, use glass jars. If using glass jars, ensure they are kept away from light, preferably in a cupboard.

Preserving young ginger requires particular attention to maintain its visual appeal and delicate aromas. Our 50g food-grade kraft tube is an excellent choice, providing effective protection against light and moisture. For larger quantities, glass jars can be used, but it’s essential to store them in a dark place, such as a cupboard, to avoid any negative impact on the quality of the ginger.

By following these storage recommendations, you can ensure the freshness and characteristic flavor of young ginger are preserved, ready to be used in all your culinary creations.
