Star anise is the dried fruit of Cambodia star anise tree, shaped like an eight-pointed star, each containing a brown and shiny oval seed.
Very decorative, the star anise is the most beautiful spice. The star anise of Cambodia has a very aniseed and slightly peppery scent that is also reminiscent of liquorice.
Star anise is part of the Khmer curry and some soups. You can also let it steep in a compote, fruit salad or in a short broth.
Star anise contains linalool, a compound rich in antioxidants that is very beneficial for health (hormonal stimulant, flu, sore throat, respiratory diseases, digestion, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory). It can therefore be used in herbal tea to relieve stomach aches, facilitate digestion and treat cough and bronchitis.
How to prepare a tea with star anise:
Start by boiling water for your tea. When boiling, pour the water into your teapot.
Place in the teapot 1-2 whole star anise flowers per cup and let steep for 10 to 15 minutes. If you want it sweeter, add honey. Honey is also beneficial for dry, oily coughs. You can also let it cool down and drink an iced star anise tea.
Once the package is open, we recommend that you keep the Star Anise in a closed jar, protected from light and moisture, so that it retains all its flavor.
